 Toronto Panhandlers

Toronto Panhandling

By

James Bredin

The homeless man slept soundly under a “Help Wanted” sign,

He would wake up shortly and slowly walk away to dine,

At one of the free-food kitchens that they had set up for him,

As he pretends his panhandling easygoing lazy life is grim.

Plus the politically correct always scream about his rights,

To beg and intimidate and even get involved in fights,

And left-wing socialist politicians are also on his side,

And we are the people so easily led and seldom surprised?

And where is the leadership to get us out of this mess?

Or the pompous media press barons that seldom protest?

Why can’t aggressive panhandlers be charged and put in jail?

And left in there for at least a month without release or bail?

And still we follow like a flock of sheep being led somewhere,

Disciplined and obedient as though we’re not even aware,

That something is wrong and they constantly refuse to put it right,

People robbed or killed or stabbed in any panhandler fight.

Is individualism forbidden by our politicians?

As they don’t seem to recognize our present conditions,

Without binding referendums or recall, we have no choice,

Be careful out there because you have no input or voice.

 Virgins of the Fifties

Virgins of the Fifties

By

James Bredin

You were one of those virgins of the fifties on parade,

Moving past on a bicycle to the chapel where you prayed,

And I was the lad who watched you with that forlorn look,

As I went and came from school long ago, carrying a book.

How did your picture get in the obituaries so soon?

In my memory you would be sixteen sometime next June,

What happened in between times for half a century or more?

Because I never did learn to bridge the gap or know the score.

Too bad we’re inclined to age and then get old and then we die,

If we could only stop the clock and turn it back for a while,

And be young again just for one or two hours in that old time,

What would we say and do and would it all be fine?

 UN Politicians

UN Politicians

By

James Bredin

The UN panders and pampers all pompous politicians,

So they feel comfortable in their far-flung peculiar conditions,

Claiming that soft power and peacekeeping might save their day,

So go to Serbia, Afghanistan or Africa right away.

UN bureaucrats want to stick their nose in what they call failed states,

So they call them rogue regimes devoid of democratic debates,

Dozens of dictators who want to stay all their lives and rule,

Mugabe of Zimbabwe is an example of those in this school.

The UN got us into Afghanistan but now, how do we get out?

Of roadside bombs where suicide Taliban types walk about,

Where there are no battlefields but the fighting doesn’t stop,

Where poppy farmers are delighted with their good opium crop.

The UN also wants our troops over in Darfur right away,

We’ll find it on the map of Africa without much delay,

Or they want our troops in Somalia said another UN man,

But our troops are already up to their necks in Afghanistan.

And too many of our troops are sent in coffins home,

Not because of bloody battlefields but UN pattern syndrome,

Where armies have come and gone since Alexander the Great,

It’s in the cards that we will leave but why is it not up for debate?

 Accountable Politicians

Accountable Politicians

By

After they are elected they tend to think that they are gods,

“No need for recall or control,” they say as they give lots of nods,

But we need referendums to control their hidden agenda,

And not be subject to their lies and pompous propaganda.

Crowds at the Canada-US border want to cross every day,

Shoppers going to the US and refugees coming our way,

Because the loonie and the green back are finally at par,

And refugees so seldom get deported which is quite bizarre.

And the few who are deported, come back again and sneak in,

And when they are found, they may be deported again and again,

But because of publicity bans we are not allowed to know,

So quietly politically correct as they move to and fro.

We should have people programs – not what they have quietly planned,

Not some of their hidden party policies concealed in the sand,

Not some politically appointed justice who never got a vote,

Soft on crime, terrorists and refugees and cell-phone remote.

The intellectual tentacles of left wing are everywhere,

They would have us all in communes if they could; so beware,

Or in their organization where we are compelled to bond,

Because of their rules and regulations and we can’t go beyond.

It’s not called lies these days; they call it misinformation,

And when politicians do it, it’s called administration,

When it takes more time to get to the airport than to Montreal,

Why can’t we build a subway there and not have to crawl?

 The Imams and the Feminists

The imams and the feminists

By

James Bredin

Ontario’s faith-based arbitration has given certain impressions,

Various religions will hold their own private sessions,

For disputes, divorce, custody, inheritance, due to crowded courts,

This impression of the imposition of Sharia law of sorts.

The imams and the feminists may eventually disagree,

About a man having four wives which we may eventually see,

These same feminists and their abortion activists may choke,

When going out to buy a burka and this is no joke.

One of those long black burkas and it’s good to get the right size,

All the way to the ground with tiny slits for the eyes,

I know what you are thinking, that this is not likely to occur,

But you don’t know if politicians and the imams concur.

Because we have no binding referendums or recall here,

They can impose what they want between elections without fear,

But will we have polygamy when or if Sharia laws are imposed?

And will all the churches or just some of them have to be closed?
