 Keep the faith

Keep the Faith

By

James Bredin

I’m almost afraid to say it but I may have lost the faith,

True believers would of course look at me in sinful disgrace,

Though some Protestants and even Mohammedans are inclined,

To also doubt but are afraid and reluctant to be so maligned.

I’ve watched the ministers, imams, pastors and rabbis in their place,

Not to mention many pedophile priests in complete disgrace,

As they pompously preached to the faithful who seldom had a doubt,

Many who believed, would die for the cause, they were so devout.

Is god a Protestant or a Catholic; that god in the sky?

Is he Islam, Buddhist, Jewish, Hindu, Agnostic and why?

Is he a he or a she and what’s his/her name and should I care?

Should I have to pretend they’re right when someone says a prayer?

And what about those who believe that he/she does not exist?

What about the abortion clinic; how do they fit into this?

What about the United Nations: do they believe in god?

Or are they waiting for a sign, more money or just a nod?

 The Faithful and the Believers

The Faithful and The Believers

By

James Bredin

The girl became a nun though she knew she would have no fun,

Maybe I thought, she had spent too much time out in the sun,

Going to hide in a convent and do penance for her sins,

This pious beauty virgin maiden who caused me some chagrin.

But who am I to say what’s right, religious or wrong?

Merely a passing observer listening to a hymn or a song,

Knowing well that I’m not too sure about god or the hereafter,

Therefore I tend to enjoy life amid a lot of loud laughter.

And I’m not that easily convinced to follow right along,

My common sense, ideas and notions are way too strong,

Like the others, I was overdosed on religion long ago,

Nor could I follow a Hitler, a Stalin or a Moe.

Therefore I watch the committed and religious with suspicion,

Wondering about their hidden motives and ambitions,

Cardinals and bishops in red dress waving to the crowd,

Or many sanctimonious preachers screaming out loud.

 Ennis County Clare Ireland

Ennis
By

James Bredin

Ennis
will forever be enshrined in my mind,
A small mark on the map from another place and time.
Memories dimmed by many years as though cut with a knife,
First seventeen years of love and laughter in my life.
In a town bowed down by poverty struggling to survive,
Back lanes of half-door houses waiting someone to arrive.

Narrow winding streets full of friends and farmers’ horses,
Pompous priests dressed in black who always walked on water,
And girls in long green dresses that came down below their knees,
Moving past on bicycles; boys waiting for a breeze,
And cows moving slowly herded down towards the water,
Where their blood will fill the Fergus from the houses of slaughter.

And the
Christian Brothers School where Brother Brien taught,
No such thing as freedom especially freedom of thought.
We learned everything in Gaelic in the very ancient script,
Letters from the Book of Kells or some ancient warrior’s crypt.
Where are the guys I knew so well; stole by emigration?
Or shied from skirts that only hurt and joined some congregation.

And now the town is filled with cars and strangers wall to wall,
A noisy rush of foreigners in a one-way traffic crawl.
And people don’t have the time to talk or gossip half the day.
They’re in a hurry, got to scurry, got to make their pay.
And traffic lights with tourist types looking out from buses,
This madness of modern times, I wonder ‘bout the pluses?

 Environmental Stuff

Environmental Foundations

By

James Bredin

The environmental evangelists all came to town,

They had a messianic message and they don’t just fool around,

Their government funded foundations have prominent web sites,

Expounding their worthy causes of what they declare is right.

Global warming, climate change, caused by all our pollution,

Believe them and donate to them because they have the solution,

They want maximum public hysteria while the going is good,

Their religion of climate change should be obeyed and understood.

These dogmatic environmental inquisitors on the prowl,

Screaming their new religious faith as they shriek and howl,

They want us to buy Kyoto carbon credits from Third World places,

We’ll feel better about all this when we see their happy faces.

We have to avert the consequences or we could go to hell,

Floods, plagues, pestilence, epidemics will be ours, they all yell,

Environmental induced sickness may eventually kill us all,

Smog and fog may clog all summer days on into the fall.

They have the charts, surveys and the figures to show all this,

You cannot avoid the oncoming consequences and dismiss,

The Arctic is going to melt soon and it’s all our fault,

The end of the earth may result in a few years by default.

It will definitely arrive before the Leafs win the Stanley Cup,

Or when the UN comes up with one answer or decides to give up,

Unfortunately most people believe and behave just like sheep,

They would follow any leader like they were walking in their sleep.

The devil is in the details of this global warming affair,

Climate change is cyclical and we should be aware,

It happened before despite their statistic laden agenda,

Take it with a grain of salt, all their oddball propaganda.

The threat of climate change is completely overblown,

Will we eventually figure this out all on our own?

Or will we all go to hell in a basket for being so dumb?

Believing their eco religion with the beat of their drum.

The Trudeau-Chretien Charter of Rights

By

James Bredin

At least a million people think that they have been oppressed,

Claiming their Charter Rights because they feel so downright depressed,

Their special interest groups too all want lots of public money,

They think of the Canadian Charter as their Easter Bunny.

And their free welfare legal clinic should pay all the costs,

And left wing media will understand and always come across,

This is the way it should be they say with all their legal aid,

They’ve got an agenda and guess who is going to pay.

Marx and Lenin would understand their socialist point of view,

Trudeau’s Charter will eventually give us what we’re due,

Was this part of the overall plan without property rights?

A left-wing multicultural communist land to their delight.
